Kansas Football The Kansas Jayhawks football team is one of the most storied programs in college football history. The Jayhawks have won three national championships (1909, 1920, and 1969) and 12 Big 12 championships. The Jayhawks have also produced some of the greatest players in college football history, including Gale Sayers, John Hadl, and David Jaynes. The Jayhawks have had a number of ups and downs throughout their history, but they have always been one of the most competitive teams in the Big 12. In recent years, the Jayhawks have been led by head coach Lance Leipold, who has helped the team to improve its record and make its way back to bowl contention. The Early Years The Kansas Jayhawks football team was founded in 1890. The Jayhawks played their first game against the nearby Washburn Ichabods, and they lost by a score of 24-0.
